Privacy Policy
Last updated
Naked Paste reads what you copy on your Mac, which can be very personal. It works entirely on your Mac, has no internet access, stores nothing you copy and has no account, analytics or tracking. The developer never receives any of your data. This policy explains what the app does and why.
In short
| What | Where it goes | Can the developer see it? |
|---|---|---|
| What you copy | Cleaned on your Mac, never stored | No |
| Text in copied images and screen areas | Recognised on your Mac | No |
| Settings and the apps you choose | Only on your Mac | No |
Who is responsible
Naked Paste is developed by Marco Lüthi, the controller responsible for data processing under the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

No internet access
Naked Paste runs in Apple's app sandbox without permission to use the network, so it cannot connect to the internet at all. Nothing you copy, and nothing about how you use the app, can leave your Mac through it.
What you copy
While cleaning is on, Naked Paste checks your Mac's clipboard twice a second. When you copy formatted text, it replaces it on the clipboard with the same text without formatting. To give you the formatting back when you pause, or in apps you haven't chosen, it keeps the original version of your last copy in memory until you copy something else or quit the app. It never writes what you copy to disk and keeps no history.
The menu shows the number of words and characters on your clipboard. They're counted when you open it and aren't kept.
Images and Copy Text from Screen
If "Turn copied images into text" is on, Naked Paste recognises the text in images you copy, using Apple's Vision framework on your Mac, and puts that text on the clipboard. Copy Text from Screen… uses macOS's own screenshot tool: you select an area, macOS copies it, and Naked Paste recognises its text the same way. macOS may ask you to allow screen recording for this. The image isn't saved anywhere.
Your apps
If you choose "Only the apps I choose", Naked Paste checks which app is in front twice a second, so it can give that app plain or formatted text. To show you the list to choose from, it reads the names and icons of the apps installed on your Mac. Both stay on your Mac; only the identifiers of the apps you tick are saved, with your settings.
Settings
Your settings, the apps you chose and a count of how many times you've copied are stored on your Mac. The count only decides when the app may show Apple's standard rating prompt; macOS limits how often that appears. If you turn on Launch at login, macOS keeps that setting in System Settings → General → Login Items.
Purchase
Naked Paste is sold on the Mac App Store. Apple handles the purchase and ratings under its own privacy policy. The developer receives only the anonymous sales reports Apple provides to every developer.
Legal basis
Where the GDPR applies, the processing described above is necessary to provide the features you use (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Under the Swiss FADP, we process personal data only as described here and in line with its principles. Everything Naked Paste handles stays on your Mac and under your control.
What Naked Paste does not do
- No account, sign-up or login.
- No advertising, analytics or crash reporting.
- No saving of what you copy, and no clipboard history.
- No tracking across apps or websites, and no selling or sharing of data.
This website
This website is a static site without cookies, analytics or tracking. Fonts are served from this website itself, so your browser does not contact third-party font services. When you visit a page, the hosting provider Vercel Inc. (based in the United States, with data centres worldwide) automatically records technical access data in server logs: your IP address, date and time, the requested page, referrer and browser type. This is needed to deliver the site and keep it secure (legitimate interest, Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). The logs are deleted after a short period. Links to the App Store take you to Apple, where Apple's privacy policy applies.
Your rights
You have the right to request access to your personal data and to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict processing, and to data portability. Because the apps store your data on your device and do not identify you, the developer usually holds no personal data about you. Most of it you can delete yourself by deleting the app.
To exercise your rights, email hi@luthi-mar.co. You can also lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority: in Switzerland the Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), in the EU the data protection authority of your country.
International transfers
Apple may process data in the United States and other countries. Apple describes the safeguards it uses for these transfers, such as the Data Privacy Framework and standard contractual clauses, in its privacy policy. This website is hosted by Vercel Inc., based in the United States; its server logs are transferred under the same kind of safeguards.
Children
Naked Paste is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes to this policy
If the app starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before the change ships, and the date at the top will change.
